‘All Footsteps’ Project Booklets

All Our Footsteps is a cross-disciplinary project taking a historical, health and policy perspective to the mapping, development, use and experience of twentieth and twenty-first century rights of way.

Funded by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council, it explores the ways in which local government, civil society and the third sector were asked to record and establish the public ways network in England and Wales following the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act of 1949.

Also considered is  the importance of an accessible and inclusive rights of way network in relation to access to nature and activities integral to human health and wellbeing, both in the past and the present.

The Monday Group is pleased to have contributed to the research in a small way and share the outcomes of the project which are concisely reported in a series of 5 booklets accessible via https://www.allourfootsteps.uk/newwriting/the-all-footsteps-project-booklets, as well as links to further details of the project.

A 2024 Media Studies Video

This is a short video featuring The Monday Group made in early 2024 by James Goldsmith and colleagues for a Science Media project at Imperial College London.
It features his father, James Goldsmith recently widowed and now retired, who opens up about his memorialisation of his late wife, Claire, whilst taking us to a special place for him and his family.
Meanwhile, members of the Monday Group reflect on their own lives and their role in shaping others’ perception of the countryside.
See how place, memory and purpose intertwine in the Sussex countryside, where emotional landscapes become embedded in their physical counterpart
