New Squeeze Stile on Bridge in Chailey

The stile at this location had seen better days. At one time it had given access to an ESCC bridge but had decayed sufficiently that it had fallen over and leaned on the bridge, making access difficult. And it obviously did not deter stock as the farmer had blocked off a route circumventing the stile with an old iron gate.
After discussion with the farmer a few weeks back it was decided that a squeeze stile similar to that of a nearby bridge, at TQ36969 21916 would be valid, so a drawing was made from its measurements, and a copy of the stile made in the workshop.
Since it was a simple enough design it could be carried, by 3 people, piecemeal across a very muddy field and downhill to the site. Then, some rotten timber having been removed and discarded, the stile was erected on site attached to the bridge..
