The Monday Group has received The King's Award for Voluntary Service
In November 2023 it was announced that The Monday Group had received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. This award recognises outstanding work by local volunteer groups to benefit their communities. The Queen’s Award was created in 2002 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and, following his accession, His Majesty The King emphasised his desire to continue the Award.
This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
The Monday Group is one of 262 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups from across the UK and Channel Islands to receive the prestigious award this year. Our work, along with others from across the UK, demonstrates all the ways fantastic volunteers are contributing to their local communities and working to make life better for those around them.
The Award was presented to the Group by Mr Andrew Blackman, CStJ, Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, after our AGM in April 2024 at Westmeston Parish Hall. Amongst the guests attending were members of the Rowling family, in tribute to our Founder.
The Award and Citation will be displayed in a purpose built display cabinet at the Hall in the future.
This is a real and lasting recognition of the impact the Group makes to the local area and a sign of the appreciation of those local communities. It is something we are really proud to receive.

The Garden Party at Buckingham Palace
Along with many other recipients of Royal recognition, Steve Brewis, the Chairman of The Monday Group and Ron Sharp, our oldest active member, attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May 2024 to celebrate the award. Unfortunately, it turned into a very wet event.
