Plumpton: Replacing a Stile
- Filed under: Recent Work, Stiles
Once upon a time this field, south of the railway line was divided into 3 with 3 stiles betwen them. In recent years the internal divisions have been replaced by more flexible electric fencing, adequate to corrall tha horses..
One stile (TQ3697016269) had decayed away completely, one (TQ3601316276) was in good condition, but the one giving access to the field from the Railway Crossing (TQ3605216278) was damaged and rotten, with a lifting bar that had no socket and treads that were deteriorating
We removed the damaged stile and cleared it away, and replaced it with the one from the field, which we dug out, clearing out the angle irons that had tethered it to the ground, and carried to its new site.
We added a new dog gate as the old stile dog-gate was too firmly attached to the wrecked stile. Sharp eyes may notice am anomaly on the dog gate!
