Replaced Rotten Causeway at Coldharbour Farm
- Filed under: Bridges, Recent Work
There was a very old railway sleeper causeway that had seriously deteriorated over the years (decades?).
The landowner gave us permission to drive quite close for all the heavy supplies and equipment we needed, for which we were very grateful.
We removed the old causeway with a lorry jack. The supports were very secure in the ground and we would have struggled without it.
The causeway we installed was one taken from the Roman Road between Keymer and Ditchling where it has been used for a couple of years until the professional resurfacing work meant to needed to be removed.
We usually like to install causeways through the wet months when the need is obvious and the ground is nice and soft. This job was deemed to be a safety issue, so we had little choice than to work with the bone hard dry ground.
