Westmeston Jubilee Permissive Path

Westmeston Jubilee Path was created by the locals, including our deceased founder, to connect Westmeston to Ditchling safely (so they could buy a paper in the morning and a beer in the evening?), with some landowners agreeing to have it on the inside of their hedges. A section of it from the end of the Bridleway called Wapple Way, south, along the east of the road was obstructed by fallen trees and a week ago a team chain-sawed them out of the way. They also found two broken signposts and a very rotten Walkway bridging a normally-wet gully, and these we dealt with this week, new signposts and a new walkway having been constructed in the Workshop.

The old walkway was dug out and put in the trailer; it had become usafe due to rot and fungi attack; the fungi were somewhat dehydrated in the drought, but doubtless still active!
The new one walksay was installed with concrete lintels to keep the wood free of the frequently damp soil.
A new signpost was erected with Pemissive Path Roundels next to the walkway/bridge, and a second, also labelled, with two arms at 135 degrees installed where the path meets the road a hundred metres or so further south.
We found the remains of a signpost at this site with a 2002 original Plaque on it (somewhat eroded with the passage of 24 years). We will attempt to get it off the post in one piece and attach it to the new post as a “historical document”.
